Fleeting
Trance is the creation of Manasseh (Ma' NASA) Bernal, a Bay Area-based songwriter,
producer and multi-instrumentalist. A musical collage of styles, influences and
instrumentation depending on the song, Fleeting Trance refuses definition, category and
genre. I like to think we have multiple styles without blending them all into one
song, says Bernal. I don't think we are a one trick pony and I think the
longer people listen the more they understand what connects us to the various musical
forms/styles we are putting out there. Track List: Artist Web Link: http://www.fleetingtrance.com/
Sixteen instrumental compositions featuring lush orchestration pieces, bleak desert soundscapes and just a touch of circuit bending. Many hours were labored to put together this special album of emotional melodies and modern composition. A big departure from the American songwriting of the last three efforts. A milestone in AJM's musical evolution.

California native Andy Mason is a little bit rock n' roll. Imagine sweeping pedal and lap steel guitars, standup bass with a bow, crisp acoustic guitars, brushes on a snare drum, muted trumpets, soothing and punchy female backing vocals.....and stories lots and lots of stories delivered with bold lyrical explosions surrounding California lawsuits, wrecked cars, scavenging birds, love on the blink, high maintenance nicknames of the tallest order, struggling against all odds in a system coming loose at the seams, beauty and utter contentment revealed at a first glance.

Most of these songs were written in the final years of the 20th century and saw a few attempts at recording them over the last decade. A post-90's classic rock record, the ghost of electricity, was written, produced and performed by Alex James Muscat. Scott Robertson composed & performed additional guitars & vocals. Daren Wilkerson played drums & percussion. Manny Bernal played trumpet on 'Somehow complicated' & sang on 'Please don't'. Tom Hargarten played drums on 'Sold your soul'. Hoptown are from San Francisco Bay Area. It is the brain child of bassist/songwriter Roy Elder. The band began in 2006 as a musical collective of musicians who share a common interest in roots music. Through the course of a year the musicians collaborated with Roy in the studio to forge a sound using both electric and acoustic instrumentation. The result is a 10 song disc that digs deep into Americana and classic rock. Track List: Artist Web Link: http://www.hoptownhighway.com
Jon Bennett paints a bleak landscape of the American experiences using a combination of classical finger picking and urban metaphors. Artist notes on Aquarium: the late great Los Angeles poet Steven Jessie Bernstein wrote a poem about a waterless aquarium in his apartment. It was full of dust, candy wrappers, melted army men, dead flies, etc., and he wrote the line "everything dies in there". The closeness of that small, bleak world in miniature inspired me to write the song Aquarium. Track List: Artist Web Link: http://www.myspace.com/jonathanbennett

Jesse Grant's studio debut, Pigeon holed is an examination in limitations, how they bend really for the good, the bad and the funny. The slippery slopes and frayed labels of our modern world may be simultaneously beloved and derided. "Like a New York bar band gene-spliced with the Pogues, Jesse Grant is boozy, slightly obnoxious but in an endearing way, old-school bluesy rock. In an age of pre-fab emo/scremo bands and self conscious hipsterism, Pigeonholed is a welcome little reminder that things weren't always this way" -Kirsty Evans:East Bay Express Track List: Artist Web Link: http://jessegrantmusic.blogspot.com/ FOLLOW MERCHANT LINKS TO PREVIEW & PURCHASE:
It is not often that we get the chance to hear a CD filled with as much energy and tenderness as Patrick Drayus' Moonbunnies. "Inspired by European cafe rock, Tropicalia and global rhythms, Jacopo manages on his debut cd to show a wide variety of styles and directions but keep it encapsulated as a satisfying whole. Treading a path between the baroque pop of Lucio Battisti and the frenetic rhythms of Manu Chao, Jacopo manages to charm with infectious songs sung in both Italian and English and unique instrumentation including mandolins, hand percussion, and some rather masterful kazoo playing! Nice! " (Aquarius Records review). Track List: Artist Web Link: http://www.jacopodenicola.com/

Phil Void is a somewhat avant-rock collective....in the traditions of Pink Floyd, NIN or The Mars Volta. The groups sound on this current disc is eclectic, wide-ranging & ambitious... welding together elements of punk, free jazz, noise, electronica & metal. Equal measures challengeing, listenable and entirely facinating. An elaborate piece of conceptual music that portrays as much as it explores, with all the cosmic tendencies of grandoise art rock, off-set by sonically enhanced garage-beats and jarring electric outbursts. Reilly has just completed his fourth album, "No Place to Hide". On this latest collection he has reached new heights of songwriting by leaving the electric band sound behind and delving into the lyrical world of truth and self examination. With all of his flaws and worries unapologetically exposed, the level of honesty has given the album an intimate feel that will transport the listener to a musical world all its own. "So much of todays music is all flash and bravado", says Reilly. "With this album I really wanted to get back to the sounds and feelings that made me love music in the first place. Making music that you like for its own sake always seems to resonate better with the listener, as opposed to trying to second guess an audience's expectations. A melody or lyric that comes straight out of my unconscious musical hum will in the end be more catchy and classic than a premeditated construction." Reactions to early versions of No Place to Hide have confirmed that it represents a new degree of depth in Reilly's work. While still playing in various ensembles from rock to jazz to bluegrass, Reilly has begun to focus more and more on his solo shows. "I like the freedom of playing solo. It affords me the opportunity to change dynamics and repertoire without warning and really put a piece of myself out there, like it or not, for all to see." Tune in! Jack Luna is well known around San Franciscos North Beach clubs, his collection of hats and stylish vintage attire has earned him the name Jack Da Hat given to him by North Beachs own icon Carol Doda while performing at one of her shows. His singing style is like no other. Some say a cross between Louie Armstrong, Leon Redbone and Louis Jordan. Weather it be a classical standard or original jazz tune, Jack makes it his own with his distinctive sound. Influence by Peter (Pop) Walsh and the Stompy Jones band, Boz Scaggs, Louis Jordan and Fats Domino's New Orleans style boogie woogie, Jack delivers an unforgettable sound that will keep you wanting more. Hailing from the Wisconsin Northwoods, JJ Schultz captures the lonesome middle-America landscape with the wry clarity of Nebraska era Springsteen. Schultzs wavering vibrato captures the snap shots of everyday people surviving the life of rural America. The dusty barrooms, the front porch steps and farmer's fields are images delivered with a subtle passion that's balanced between sparse guitar picking and a poignant vocal delivery that is as distinctive as Jay Farrar and Townes Van Zandt. "Something To Me" (Last Stop Records) has a full, roving and rattling sound in the footsteps of Crazy Horse, without it sounding too heavy. Meaning it sounds exactly right. The endless row of telephone poles on the album cover already indicates that endless travelling is the overall theme of this great CD. And yes, the great leaving; the unwanted goodbye. Over the course of ten songs Schultz uncovers the white underbelly of today's America. The narrative, syrupy songs have titles like Ol' Billy The Cab Driver, He Drives and The Lonesome Truck driver, and from a musical standpoint the JJ Schultz Band swings like the proverbial train with its destination somewhere close to Sixteen Horsepower or even The Gun Club. Ballads are also safe in JJ's hands because slide, electrical guitar and Schultz' melancholy touch to the core. The cover of Ol' '55 is slightly superfluous, but you get full compensation by the tearing gallop of Drinkin' You Off My Mind: 'George Jones where are you now? I need you in my desperate hour.' Something To Me places JJ Schultz among unknown but very much loved country-rocking troubadours such as Steve Wedemeyer, Nels Andrews, Thomas Denver Jonsson, David Wolfenberger or Ramsey Midwood. What's great about Something To Me is that Schultz proves his capacity of not only creating wonderful country folk songs but also superior grating and enticing country rock songs Track List: Artist Web Link: http://www.jjschultz.com FOLLOW MERCHANT LINKS TO PREVIEW & PURCHASE:
