THE HISTORY OF THE HOTEL UTAH CHALLENGE 2003

On May 1st, 2000, Dayla Soul and her compadres created a singer-songwriter
competition that not only provided the winner with a pro C.D., web-sight,
video and a Saturday night gig at the Utah; but also saved the Hotel Utah
from going under. Wow, what a challenge. We revisited the challenge 2000
last year with a new mission: to celebrate our passion for expression; to
acknowledge the abundance of talent in our midst; and to forward a few of our
finest.

The challenge 2002 was a great triumph as several of the talented local
artists came together to provide an extraordinary show. Participants were
charged by the opportunity to be on the Challenge 2002 CD and the possibility
of winning the grand prize which included recording time at APG records; a
handmade schatten design acoustic transducer pick-up; a Saturday night gig at
the hotel utah; a $200 gig at Applejacks and… a beer from JJ.

The Challenge 2003 was a community generated contest with the purpose of
celebrating our art: bringing light and public awareness to the gem that one
local musician calls “San Francisco’s naked underground.” We have begun to
bring this “underground” to the foreground and expose our truly amazing
passion and talent for expression and music to the greater public. I invite
you to join us as we continue this celebration. Sign up for the Challenge
2003. Support your community and take advantage of this awesome opportunity.
